Services

Alcohol and Drugs Action provides a needle exchange service in Aberdeen City and at a range of outreach locations which provides advice on ways to reduce the risk of transmission of blood bourne viruses among injecting drug users.

DBST (Dry Blood Spot Testing) is now available in all out needle exchange locations, this is where you can get tested for BBV.

Alcohol and Drugs Action holds a BBV nurse led clinic at the city needle exchange once a month,  which offers immunisation for Hepatitis A and B and further testing for HIV/Hepatitis B and C.

Alcohol and Drugs Action also has a BBV Specialist Worker who offers:

  • One to one counselling available for those affected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis
  • Advice to people who are HIV or Hep B or C positive on ways of minimising the risk of transmission to others
  • Support to people who are about to undertake or who are recieving treatment for Hepatitis C
  • Distribution of leaflets /factual information to service users
  • Maintenance of library resource on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B and C
  • Training / Consultancy to other agencies on issues relating to HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis
  • Liaison and referral to other appropriate services
